Day Two - Christchurch to Methven.
Today we started our 8 day bike ride to Queenstown. After packing and saying goodbye to our generous hosts Trevor & Adrienne (they picked us up at the airport, cooked our meals and let us do laundry!) we hit the road. Unfortunately, it was raining. We rode 100km through rolling farmland on the Canterbury Plain. We saw thousands of sheep as well as cows, llamas and alpacas. We took many breaks to fill up on water and trail mix. There was a great downhill into Rakaia Gorge, but unfortunately what goes down must go up. The road out of the Gorge was a killer! We ended the day with a nice pub dinner in the town of Methven. We stayed the night on a beautiful farm called Green Gables hosted by Colleen & Roger. We fell asleep pretty early and pretty quick. For more pictures of Day Two, click here.
