Day Eighteen - Wanaka

Today was our last day in Wanaka, and we spent about 5-6 hours of it hiking up to the top of Mt. Roy. The hike led to stunning views of Lake Wanaka, as well as the surrounding mountains. We climbed a total of 1200 meters, and saw a good deal of sheep, this time up close and personal as we were hiking up swtichbacks on private land used for grazing. We somehow managed to lose the track on the way down, and had to scramble over a fence and through some bramble patches to find the trail again. It felt very good to get back in the van and drive to the beach at Wanaka, to wash off the sunscreen and sweat. We did some food shopping, did some laundry and caught up on the blog. Tonight, we'll grab some dinner here, and then head out for Franz Josef Glacier, our next stop.
