We hiked to the top one of the peaks of Castle Crags in Northern California and were rewarded with a breathtaking view of Mt. Shasta which stands at over 14,000 feet. The day was very warm and sunny as you can tell by our matching dorky hats.

Crater Lake

They say that the Indians who lived near Crater Lake would not acknowledge its existence and that to look upon the lake would result in death. On this clear day I can see why someone might have thought that. The cliffs and peaks were reflected perfectly in the still water which is nearly 2,000 feet deep in some places. It was as if we were looking into infinity. Kinda spooky, but beautiful nevertheless.

Holy crags.

We had a wonderful Independence Day weekend hiking and camping near Castle Crags State Park in Northern California with our friends Laura & Jeremy. The weather was beautiful. We cooled off in the afternoons floating down the river beside our campground on $4.00 plastic rafts. Our pleasant slumbers under the stars were only periodically interrupted by the very busy Union Pacific railroad located about 200 meters to the West. It was kind of like sleeping on a train. Or near a train anyway.
